THE PERFECT SUMMER SALAD FOR ANY TIME OF YEAR
The Shepherd’s Salad, also know as Coban Salatas in its native Turkish tongue, is the epitome of a hearty, wholesome meal. While it’s often associated with summer, so are things like walks, hikes and other healthy activities – especially during the long Midwestern winter.
We think about the Shepherd’s Salad a little differently. If it’s a delicious dish that’s good for you, we think it should be offered year round. Regardless of the cruel tricks Mother Nature plays on us during the winter months. So we’ve made it a year-round staple on our menu and, low and behold, it’s one of the most popular dishes on our menu. Even in January.
We didn’t learn about the Shepherd’s Salad in a recipe book. We actually spent time trying dozens of versions, with a wide variety of touches, right where it came from. Turkey (the country, not the bird). From street vendors to cafes and even in fine dining settings, the Shepherd’s salad is truly one of those rare dishes you crave that’s good for you and fills you up. We like to call it our posterchild for combining Wholesome, Hearty and Healthy.
